Makes: 1 portion (serving size as shown)

Ingredients

GROUP A: SAVOURY SEASONING

  • 1/4 tsp red chili flakes

  • 1/4 tsp dried basil

  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 tsp dried marjoram

GROUP B: FRENCH TOAST

  • 2 slices of bread of choice

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/3 cup milk

  • Savoury french toast seasoning

  • 3/4 tsp butter

GROUP C: GARNISHING

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • 1/4 tsp worth finely minced fresh parsley

  • Sriracha sauce

Method

  • Mix all Group A ingredients in a small bowl, to make the seasoning. Heat butter in a large skillet. Cut the bread into 1-inch narrow sections.

  • Whisk together the egg, milk, and seasoning mix. Dip the bread till fully coated; shake off excess batter, and transfer to the skillet. Cook on medium-low heat till all the edges are browned and slightly crisp. Do not cook on high heat because that will just end up burning or excessively charring your toast; the trick is to cook on a lower flame for a longer time so that the edges become crisp, but the rest of the toast still retains its softness.

  • Transfer cooked toast to a plate. With the heat still on, add the cherry tomatoes to the skillet, and sear for approximately 30 to 40 seconds. Top off the toast with the tomatoes, parsley, and sriracha sauce.
