Flight To The Blood Moon

Makes: 1 stunningly ruby-red and delicious cocktail

This summery stunner is a combination of a riff on a classic Paper Plane cocktail and its original predecessor, The Last Word. Traditionally, a Paper Plane is made with (no, not paper) equal parts bourbon, amaro, and a bittersweet apertivo.

The Last Word used equal parts gin, maraschino liqueur, and green chartreuse. So I combined the two and charted this new flight route.

I imagine a hypothetical universe in which some blood moon is hospitable, always warm, and where it’s forever ideal for lazy days of pool side lounging under the shade of an umbrella, or a gigantic hat ;)

ingredients

  • 3/4 oz gin (a citrus-forward one would be ideal)

  • 3/4 oz aperol

  • 3/4 oz disaronno

  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice

  • 1/4 oz grilled fruit syrup (make yours using this recipe!)

  • Ice

method

  • Chill a champagne coupe/cocktail saucer for 5 - 7 minutes. Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake for a few seconds, and strain into the chilled coupe. Garnish with a sliced strawberry, or better still, a cute paper airplane.
